We received 3 nights of free camping to Compton Ridge Campground in Branson, MO through Camping World. I knew they'd try to sell us something (and they did), but we didn't buy and still got 3 nights of free camping plus a $50 gift certificate to Camping World (score!). We needed to take a second "trial trip" anyway, continuing to make our lists of things forgotten. The campground is right in the middle of thick woods in Branson, although it's only about a mile from Silver Dollar City, and minutes from Branson West. So it was only about 45 minutes from where we live on the south side of Springfield. This was another spontaneous trip (we made reservations the day before). Each site is heavily surrounded by woods, so it feels very private - like you could be the only ones there. A great time for reflection and rejuvenation.
Here's a little glimpse of the last couple days...

Has anyone ever heard of RoadTrippers.com?? I've just recently discovered it, and I'm in LOVE! I've been trying to recreate the wheel with this whole trip planning thing, and this is making my life so much easier. There are still some glitches and improvements that they're working on, but all in all, a good product. They have a directory of places to stop along your journey (places to eat, attractions, camping, hotels, etc...) and they also have guides with suggested places to go (like all the restaurants from Man Vs. Food, or all the US National Parks, or stops along Route 66, etc...). You can add stops to your route, or create a bucket list with options of things to do along the way. You can add dates to each place on your route, creating your trip itinerary, and it gives you mileage and estimated gas cost. I hope to see some more improvements in the future, especially in their apps (I've been driving their support team crazy...haha), but it's definitely worth using. I'll probably be posting information from them along the way...
Description from their site: "Roadtrippers is a simple and intuitive USA road trip planner. Search along a route or plan a road trip with our online trip planner for free, then sync it with your smartphone for turn-by-turn navigation. Roadtrippers is a powerful route planner, perfect as a RV trip planner or family trip planner, as it not only let’s you plan a route on the map, but seamlessly syncs your travel itinerary to turn-by-turn navigation via our iPhone app." So if you plan on taking an extended road trip in the future, I would highly recommend using them. :) It's finally happening. All the stars seemed to have aligned, and we are finally going to be taking Harvey and hitting the road. It's amazing the things that have fallen into place in order for this to happen - it's like it was meant to be.
This is what we've been waiting for really - it's been our goal for the last several years, to be able to hit the road and take our time to see whatever we want to see, go wherever we want to go, for however long we want to do it (or until the money runs out). We crave experience. Why wait until you're retired to experience these things, when you're too old to take that 15 mile hike? We're not even guaranteed a retirement - we're not guaranteed tomorrow. Goal: Take every opportunity to do something AWESOME, and collect memories along the way. Occupation: Collector of Memorable Experiences. I CANNOT wait for this next phase in our journey together. And even though she won't remember it all, I am so excited that we get to experience this journey with Ember. Stay tuned for more details and trip planning... Our friend Vicki at Big Fish Screenprinting hooked us up with an awesome image of Harvey for our new header. Thanks, Vicki!
Most people are curious about how we plan on living life on the road - how we're going to make money, cook, where we fit everything for 3 people in a 21 ft space, how we don't kill each other in that 21 ft space... I'm going to film a comprehensive video walk-through soon of how we have everything set up in our camper (for those fellow RV'ers who are interested), and I'll post pictures as well. But in the meantime, I will post "glimpses" of each place we are and how we live life on the road day to day.
